The 2020 Community Voices grant will support a time capsule book and website of essays, photographs, poems and other creative formats documenting the Uprising (Against White Supremacy, in Defense of Black Lives) in Philadelphia from May-June 2020. The project will collage intergenerational reflections of Black Philadelphians with an intersectional emphasis and attunement to the ongoing labor of “how we get free.”

The Heaux History Project (HHP) will use the 2020 Community Voices grant to gather the stories and histories of Black and Brown sex workers and how they are surviving through COVID-19. HHP will collect oral interviews, writings, and artistic representations, with a long term-goal to create a documentary and archival project.

The 2020 Community Voices grant will support an annual youth program to train black girls and womxn to use VR/AR to create immersive technology storytelling of their experiences. In addition it will provide support for a student-led project for inclusion in their virtual museum, which is set to launch next summer. The program participants will be compensated.

This two-year grant will support, deepen, and evolve Taller's Eugenio M. de Hostos archive's usability and expand the multimedia programming and output of the Hostos Archive, focusing on social justice and advocacy through community access to self-authored stories. Taller will: promote and continue development of the archive's digital content, programs and exhibitions; produce media in creative and innovative formats; and share produced media in the community and outside the community with new audiences.
