Awarded Grants

The 2020 Community Voices grant will support a information equity and community-driven storytelling project that will work in partnership with local journalists, media-makers, and residents in Camden to deepen community-newsroom relationships, equip residents with tools and platforms to share their experiences, and develop new strategies that address structural information inequities worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2020 Community Voices grant will support the production of a mini series, working title: “COVID-19 Season and Beyond,” that explores how the pandemic has exacerbated long-existing social inequities and economic disparities that primarily impact Black and Brown communities.

The 2020 Community Voices grant will support a platform for Philadelphia-area youth reporters to share their experiences and stories—ultimately preserving the community's memory of the coronavirus and future health events as they unfold.

The 2020 Community Voices Fund grant will support a “Spiral Q Community Cohort” using storytelling, art and artmaking toward collective justice and liberation through their participation in the Art for Action Pipeline and the Peoplehood Parade & Pageant in 2020 and 2021. Cohort members will amplify their own communities' stories and messaging, build community beyond their group with a wider demographic striving for justice, and educate themselves in new techniques and practices integral to social justice movements.

The 2020 Community Voices grant will support the production of a season two of the web series, Resistance: the battle of philadelphia, a six-part, short form, speculative fiction web series about a community's struggle against the surveillance and state violence of a powerful corporate government in a near-future Philadelphia.

The 2020 Community Voices grant will support a partnership between PACA and Bonfire Media Collective to produce a short video series capturing the oral histories of cooperatives in the Philadelphia region. Through collaborative “watch, learn, and dream” events, PACA and Bonfire will use the series to build knowledge and catalyze interest in the co-op business model for a just and equitable economic future.

The 2020 Community Voices grant will support virtual programming as well as funds to showcase student photography produced during the COVID-19 quarantine in partnership with Motivos, a full color glossy magazine printed in English and Spanish that inspires and empowers Latino youth to explore their full potential and make informed choices about life, college, and career options.

The 2020 Community Voices grant will support a partnership between Philadelphia Young Playwrights and the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center to facilitate a three-pronged digital storytelling program which combines monologues and photos of personal narratives of Philly youth, detailing their COVID-19 and civil unrest experiences, to create digital short stories.

The 2020 Community Voices grant will support the production of five documentaries and five podcast episodes created by community members in CCATE's filmmaking and podcast classes. These series will address the impact of immigration, health disparity, mental health and housing challenges on the Latinx community during COVID-19.

The 2020 Community Voices grant will support the disParities Media Project, a pilot media-making project that exposes the structural inequities affecting families with children in Norristown and Pottstown, where over 50% of the residents are Black and Brown. In partnership with ACLAMO and The Urban League, Children First will amplify the stories and lived experiences of these communities in search of justice and change.
