To follow up on the success of the “Images in Quarantine” issue of Motivos magazine and highlight the amazing photography produced by students as the country is emerging from the COVID-19 quarantine. Recipient of 2021 Community Voices grant.
The 2020 Community Voices grant will support virtual programming as well as funds to showcase student photography produced during the COVID-19 quarantine in partnership with Motivos, a full color glossy magazine printed in English and Spanish that inspires and empowers Latino youth to explore their full potential and make informed choices about life, college, and career options.
The 2020 Community Voices grant will support the creation of additional opportunities and support for community-based artists, activists, and scholars through Bulletin, a collaborative, web-based editorial platform for critically reading and reimagining public monuments through stories of social justice.
The 2020 Community Voices grant will support the production of a collection of youth stories called “Voices from the Quarantine”. The book will contain more than 30 chapters of student writing about topics such as their experiences during COVID-19 and reflections on the racial justice movements occurring in Philadelphia.
The 2020 Community Voices grant will support the expansion of the “Hometown Heroes” project into a three-part editorial series that includes jazz profiles, resources for artists, and opportunities for local artists to address issues like COVID-19 and civil unrest.
To record, archive, and amplify the stories of everyday sex workers of color and sex workers of color leaders navigating life through and after COVID-19. Recipient of 2021 Community Voices Fund grant.
The Heaux History Project (HHP) will use the 2020 Community Voices grant to gather the stories and histories of Black and Brown sex workers and how they are surviving through COVID-19. HHP will collect oral interviews, writings, and artistic representations, with a long term-goal to create a documentary and archival project.
The 2020 Community Voices grant will support Project Engage, an internet radio programming targeting community violence, mental health, education, and civic engagement in Chester, Pennsylvania and surrounding communities.
