COVID-19 Emergency Fund to 2019 Grantees.

The 2020 Community Voices grant will support “Just Love Stories,” a multimedia series that documents stories of love, justice, and culture that work towards social justice. Stories written by, as well as interviews of, community groups and individuals leading movements will be featured in a documentary web series titled “Just Love.”

This two-year general operating grant will go toward producing and distributing empathy-centered stories that prioritize BIPOC communities, cultural practices, and values.

The 2020 Community Voices grant will support the launch of an independent news website of bilingual (English, Spanish, and/or Portuguese) investigative stories in the form of articles and videos. Working in collaboration with Philadelphia Latinx, immigrant, and communities of color, each story will be culturally competent with rigorous journalistic standards to expand the coverage of diverse and timely stories told by and for the community.

This two-year grant will propel the expansion of a variety of community and business development initiatives toward thriving, community-centered news and information in Kensington that will begin this year and extend through 2026.

The 2020 Community Voices grant will support the restructuring and expansion of the Kensington Voice staff to better serve underrepresented and vulnerable people, improve news and information accessibility, increase audience and community engagement, highlight and encourage neighborhood resilience, and develop a team of BIPOC journalists.

This two-year grant will strengthen the community-centered journalism projects in Kensington, in which residents are helping to create news coverage of issues important to their neighborhoods. Funding is designed to foster long-term sustainability and continuity through community staff positions, advisory groups, and the hiring of program alumni.
